WHY?
Layne Staley is more than just the deceased singer
of Alice in Chains. He is more than the addict that the media played up &
sensationalized. He is an artist who changed lives & many times literally
saved lives. He had a voice that touched souls & words that altered the
very existence of his fans. He had a way of making us feel like we knew him. He sang of pain, depression, confusion, drug addiction, loss, hope, redemption, salvation & recovery. He touched every emotion in his fans & has been virtually ignored since he died. At the Grammy’s, where Alice in Chains was nominated even, the ignorant deletion of his name with the people who had died that year was yet another terrible injustice.
Layne was an artist, exceptionally talented singer
and poet who contributed to many other projects besides Alice in Chains, most
notably Mad Season, an album in itself which has nurtured & helped more
fans than we know. His contributions stem further than popular media has
admitted or reported on. We want to see this man honored for what he has done for so many. He deserves it.
